The innovative Master Composter Program
in New York City trained volunteers to teach techniques of indoor and
outdoor composting. In Queens, Master Composters spoke at least three
foreign languages --- Mandarin, Spanish, Russian--and brought quality
environmental education to homes and schools.
The City eliminated these programs in all five boroughs in 2002.
