I'll
   keep
    it short.
    Retired to
     New York City
      after 30 years
      in Baltimore where
      I had a back yard
     to recycle
     food waste.
    Now just the
   garbage chute
  down
  the hall.
Not for me!
Began freezing
garbage,
  driving it back to
   Baltimore.
     Heard about this woman
       in outdoor market
        who would take
         everyone's
          organic leftovers and
          get little tiny red
worms
          to turn the stuff into
           something called
           vermicompost.
            New York City
actually
           gave her an empty
lot
            for this.
           So I took my frozen
           garbage on the
subway.
          Long ride, knees got
cold.
         Four years ago
        the big leap-
       one pound of
      my own
     red wiggler worms
(male and female in same worm,
    very New York).
Put them in a beautiful handmade
     wooden box
       with torn-up New York Times.
          Watched them, Mothered
them,
           Very therapeutic...wonderfully
